Interlibrary Loan Service
If we do not have either the journal article or book you need, we can get it for you through our inter-library loans service. You may request up to 5 items per week. In partnership with other local and national libraries, a search will be carried out by us to see if the book or article is held by another library and it will be borrowed from that library on your behalf.
Who can use the service?
The inter-library loans service is available to all staff working in TRFT, the Rotherham CCG and independent contractors, Rotherham Public Health, Rotherham Hospice, NHS England (South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw) and social services staff involved in patient care. Special note for NHS staff seconded onto courses: NHS employees who are full-time students at a local university should contact their university library for course-related inter-library loan requests in the first instance. Please note: students from local universities on placement cannot use this service and should contact their university library for inter-library loans.
How does the service work?
Simply fill in an online Interlibrary Loan Request Form for each item you require (or download and print a request form and either pass the form/s to a member of Library & Knowledge Service staff or post the form to us). Include as much detail as possible about the item and your contact details and remember to sign each form or tick the online form to certify you will adhere to copyright law. We will then arrange for your request to be processed.
Journal articles will be sent out to you by the Hospital Library, for you to keep, these normally arrive within a couple of days. Books can take up to 14 days to arrive. As a rule allow 10 – 14 days for any items to be obtained. If you have requested a book you will be notified by us when your item is ready for collection.
More about books on inter-library loan
All books requested through the inter-library loans service must be collected from and returned to the Hospital Library by the person who has
requested the books. If you are unable to collect your inter-library loan item or no longer need it, please contact us as soon as possible. A £5 charge will be made for British Library books that are not collected or where no attempt is made to cancel a request for a book. This is to cover charges levied by the British Library.
The loan period is set by the lending library and the return date for the book will be clearly marked inside the front cover. Renewals are
only permitted with the lending library’s approval and not always permitted. Fines are charged for overdue books. Please contact us if you have any queries about your inter-library loan book.
Inter-library loan books must be returned in person to the Hospital Library. In cases where books are not returned, invoices for the
replacement cost of the book may be issued, in accordance with the rules of the lending library.
