How do I find a book?
  • To borrow books, you need to join your library service.
  • You can search our new library catalogue (YorCat) which will search Rotherham Hospitals’ book and e-book collection as well as multiple NHS libraries across Yorkshire and the Humber.  You can request books to be sent to you at Rotherham.
Search the library catalogue
How many books can I borrow?
  • You can borrow 10 items.
  • Books are normally loaned for 4 weeks.
  • Books not required by other users are automatically renewed 5 times, after which you will be expected to return your books.
The Library is open 24 hours a day - access with your staff RFT card - you can borrow and return items with your Library membership barcode - contact us if you need one
How do I search the Catalogue (YorCat)?
YorCat is the name of the library catalogue.  We are part of the YorCat library consortium in Yorkshire and the Humber so you will be able to search for all resources from across Yorkshire and Humber. Through the online catalogue, you can request items from any of the participating libraries to be sent to this library for you to borrow. See our guide  to Searching and personalising the Library Catalogue (YorCat) for more details.

How do I reserve a book?

All members of the library will need to register for a username and password in order to log into YorCat.  This will allow you to see the books you have out on loan and reserve new books.  Go to Log in to your account and if you haven’t got a password choose forgot your password.  Enter your library membership number in the log in field (contact us if you need help with this).  Enter the email address you used to register with the library.  You will be sent an email that will allow you to set a password. After setting your password you will be able to log in to the library catalogue using your library membership number and password and reserve books.
What if you don’t have the book I need?

If we do not have the book you need, we can get it for you free of charge through our inter-library loans service.  In partnership with other local and national libraries, a search will be carried out by us to see if the book is held by another library and it will be borrowed from that library on your behalf.  Please contact us to request an inter-library loan book.
Other Physical Resources
In addition to our print collection we also have a collection of
health education resources and IT Equipment available to borrow.  We also have a large collection for fiction for staff and patients to borrow
Do you charge fines?
We do not charge fines so overdue books.  We just ask you to make contact if you are struggling to return an item.
If books are lost there will be a charge for a replacement item. If you have lost a book please make contact to discuss options.
Can I recommend a book for purchase?
We welcome book recommendations! Please get in touch with us with the details of the book or fill in the book recommendation form and we will consider whether we can add it to our collection.
