About NHS OpenAthens
To access many ejournals, ebooks and databases you will first need to register for an NHS OpenAthens account. OpenAthens is not a database itself. It is a username and password authentication system. It controls access to electronic resources purchased by a particular organisation.
The Library & Knowledge Service can help you to register or can help if you're having problems with your account. |
All employees and contractors of NHS-commissioned care in England can register for an NHS OpenAthens account. This includes employees of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, GPs, practice staff, commissioners, students and colleagues working in public health and social care. You can check the full eligibility criteria online.
Once you have registered for OpenAthens you will be able to access the resources purchased by the NHS in England and also the resources purchased within your region (in our case by Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber). If you are undertaking a university course, you may also have a university OpenAthens account. This will give you access to the resources purchased by the university.
Register for an NHS OpenAthens account online. If you do this from a non-NHS computer, you must provide an NHS e-mail address. The registration process is much quicker if you do it from an NHS computer. Once you have registered, you can access resources with your NHS OpenAthens user name and password from any internet connection.
Follow the instructions on the registration page and find your organisation by typing in its name. Then complete each page with your personal and professional details. Once you have submitted your details you will be given a user name. You will then need to wait for a e-mail from EduServ. This will enable you to choose a password and activate your account.
