Updated June 2021:

You'll find at least two members of library staff in the hospital library every week day now and the whole team is still here to help.

Good news: most of our services are still available:
  • Book loans: we are now able to loan books to staff: please visit the library between 08.30 and 17.00 to borrow books. Our self-issue machine remains unavailable for now. Books can be returned any time: please return all books (plus any items you handle whilst browsing in the library) to the plastic box in the library or the blue returns box in the corridor.  If you'd like to borrow fiction please ask library staff for access to the collection during weekday office hours.
  • eBooks, eJournals and online databases are still available: find out more on our website: ebooks; ejournals; databases
  • Library space: the hospital library remains accessible via staff badges and from Monday 7th Sept the doors will be open during office hours (continue to swipe in with your badge for access outside these hours). You can access the library books and print journals (borrowing is available 08.30-17.00), use the PCs, photocopier and printers. Books can be returned any time: please return all books (plus any items you handle whilst browsing in the library) to the plastic box in the library or the blue returns box in the corridor. Oak House library resources can be borrowed by prior arrangement: please contact library staff to discuss this. Oak House is closed to all visitors at this time.
  • Enquiries and literature searches: please submit these to us by email rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net, via the website or to library staff in the hospital library 08.30-17.00: we are here and ready to connect you with the latest evidence.
  • Training: we are still able to deliver information skills training, either socially distanced in the hospital or online: please contact us for details. Support with information skills is also available on our website.
  • Evidence updates: we can send you regular updates by email on subjects of your choice: to register please do so via the website or email us: rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net.  You can still view and register for our news feeds.
  • Digital article supply: we can still provide electronic articles: email us on rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net or request via the website and we will do our very best to get hold of the article you need.
  • Athens: we can still help you to set up Athens usernames and troubleshoot any problems with existing accounts: please contact us: rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net or find out more on the website.
  • Books for Patients: We can now loan books to in-patients. However, staff members will have to come down to the library to borrow books on a patient's behalf. We hope to resume trolley rounds when we are able to have volunteers back on site.

What's changed?
  • Oak House remains closed to visitors.  Resources from Oak House can only be borrowed by prior arrangement: please talk to library staff about this.
  • Health promotion resources, reminiscence resources, breast pumps, training games etc can only be borrowed by prior arrangement and there are some restrictions on what we can loan out. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.  We can advise on freely available high-quality online health promotion resources: please email us: rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net . Please contact us if you have a query about a future booking of a resource:

  • Our rolling programme of information skills training sessions is still on hold.  Contact us for individual training, either socially-distanced at the hospital or online.
  • We have fewer staff than usual in the Hospital library but two members of staff are available 08:30- 17:00 and can be contacted on 01709 427139 or on rgh-tr.libraryhealthcare@nhs.net.  The hospital library remains accessible via staff badges (doors will be unlocked during office hours from 7th Sept): you can use the library books for reference purposes, borrow books during office hours, return books, and use the PCs, printers and photocopiers. Please contact the ID badge office, Estates, Level D if you find your badge does not give you access to the library.

Thank you; we're still here to help.
