Public Health: Online Databases

Most of the electronic resources to which we subscribe are accessible via the NHS Evidence Journals and Databases portal.  From this website, you can access a range of electronic resources, including e-books, e-journals, systematic reviews and healthcare databases, such as Medline, Cinahl, PsycInfo and EMBASE and the Cochrane Library.

To access the databases you will first need to register for an NHS Athens account.  Athens is not a database itself. It is a user name and password authentication system. It controls access to electronic resources. If you have an NHS Athens account, you can access the resources purchased by the NHS in England. You also have access to the resources purchased by the SHA in the region in which you register, such as Yorkshire and the Humber. If you are undertaking a university course, you may also have a university Athens account. This will give you access to the resources purchased by the university.  Forgotten your Athens username or password?  Contact us and we can re-set it for you.
