Links to Covid-focused research databases and datasets
A number of COVID-19 focused databases have been developed: these are listed below.
You may also wish to search the core healthcare databases (Medline, Embase, CINAHL) on the NICE Evidence website (or we are very happy to do the searching for you: email: [email protected]).
The Library & Knowledge Service also has access to a wide range of additional online biomedical databases, clinical skills resources and CPD tools, including extra resources made freely available to NHS staff for the duration of the COVID-19 e.g. Clinical Skills and The Royal Marden Manual. Visit our databases page to access these.

Databases of research:
- COVID-19: a living systematic map of the evidence
In response to the current crisis, the EPPI-Centre (UCL) are maintaining an up-to-date map of the current evidence divided into broad domains for easy exploration. - WHO COVID-19 Database: single search of global research on coronavirus.
WHO is gathering the latest international multilingual scientific findings and knowledge on COVID-19. The global literature cited in the WHO COVID-19 database is updated daily (Monday through Friday) from searches of bibliographic databases, hand searching, and the addition of other expert-referred scientific articles. - LitCovid: a curated literature hub (US) for tracking up-to-date scientific information about the 2019 novel Coronavirus. (US National Library of Medicine) 'It is the most comprehensive resource on the subject, providing a central access to 5645 (and growing) relevant articles in PubMed. The articles are updated daily and are further categorized by different research topics and geographic locations for improved access'.
- CoronaCentral: collates research publications from the three main coronaviruses: SARS-CoV-2, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV
Categorises papers into a large number of narrow topics and article types, enabling easier identification of relevant work. Papers, from peer-reviewed and preprint sources, are split into different article types using machine learning. The latest research is retrieved daily from PubMed and the CORD-19 dataset. https://coronacentral.ai - CORD-19: The Semantic Scholar team at the Allen Institute for AI has partnered with leading research groups to provide CORD-19, a free resource of more than 280,000 scholarly articles about the novel coronavirus for use by the global research community. https://www.semanticscholar.org/cord19 www.semanticscholar.org/cord19
- DisasterLit Database for Disaster Medicine and Public Health: US National Library of Medicine (NLM) database of links to disaster medicine and public health documents. Documents include expert guidelines, research reports, conference proceedings, training classes, fact sheets, websites, databases, and similar materials for a professional audience.
- PubMed: Coronavirus Free articles View the latest articles on PubMed. You may also wish to search the core healthcare databases (Medline, Embase, CINAHL) on the NICE Evidence website.
- Preprint Servers: (with thanks to LKS ASE): databases of research published prior to peer review which therefore should not be used as the basis for clinical decisions:
COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 preprints from medRxiv and bioRxiv
Novel Coronavirus Disease COVID-19
- GIDEON (OVID): GIDEON (Global Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Online Network): multimedia resource features up-to-date information and visual tools for diagnosing diseases and following the latest trends in epidemiology and treatment.
- ClinicalTrials.gov: COVID-19 trials database from the US National Library of Medicine
Datasets:
- Office for National Statistics: Coronavirus (COVID-19): Latest data and analysis on coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK and its effect on the economy and society.
- UK Government: Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the UK
- NHS Digital: Dashboard of data on reported COVID-19 symptoms: shows the total number of NHS Pathways triages through 111 and 999, and online assessments in 111 online which have received a potential COVID-19 final disposition.
- Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre: Weekly reports on COVID-19 Case-Mix Programme and REMAP-CAP clinical trial
- NIHR Innovation Observatory (UK): COVID-19 Updates
This resource provides dashboards of the therapeutic interventions and diagnostic tests in clinical development for COVID-19. The information is updated regularly and has been collated via horizon-scanning of multiple sources to support the national response and effort to tackle COVID-19. - Worldometer: Global data on coronavirus
- European Center for Disease Prevention and Control: Daily worldwide data on coronavirus
- Johns Hopkins University of Medicine: an online resource to help advance the understanding of the virus, inform the public, and brief policymakers in order to guide a response, improve care, and save lives. Includes case tracker and data-sets.
- Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (Oxford): Global Case Fatality Rates; Commentary and interpretation of data on UK daily death rate
